Description
The Tale of Inspector Legrasse is the name of the the second chapter of The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft. It was my first exploration into the dodecaphonic system of composition; I felt that the expressionist composition technique fit macabre tone of the program. I sought to recreate the experience of Inspector Legrasse as he voyages deep into the swamps: the swirling mist, the shrieks and howls echoing through the trees, and the beating of distant drums. The middle section represents the chaos of uncovering a cult ritual and the violence of the ensuing battle. The final few measures embody the creeping feeling of dread as the the inspector realizes the horror of what he just witnessed.
