Description
The piece is a loosely programmatic set of three miniatures representing the journey of the mind through a single night. The first movement, representing nodding off to sleep, is a prelude that presents all of the material explored in the subsequent movements. The middle movement depicts the fantastical journey of the mind wandering through dreams, and develops of the eight note flourishes from the prelude. The final movement is the dawning of a new day, with a simple melody reminiscent of Schumann’s Of Foreign Lands and People as the mind slowly drifts back into consciousness. It is a simple, charming piece that give the performer ample room to explore lyricism and rubato.
