About the Arrangement

Claude Debussy’s Rêverie was one of the first guitar trio arrangements that I put together for the Ottawa Guitar Trio when we formed in 2017. The Rêverie is a beautiful solo piano piece that, as the name implies, floats through a series of different moods and ideas much in the way that one’s thoughts wander while watching clouds or daydreaming. Performing the Rêverie for classical guitar trio posed a unique challenge to us as an ensemble, as Debussy’s music demands a feeling of freedom and spontaneity from the performer–hard enough to accomplish as a soloist let alone as a guitar trio! Over many years of performing, putting aside, and revisiting the piece we have come to terms with the piece and managed to work out technical and musical solutions that make the Rêverie sound as natural on classical guitar as it does on piano.
