Please enjoy my recent video recording of Frank Martin’s Quatre Pièces Brèves! This piece was markedly avant-garde in comparison to other early 20th-Century guitar works and stands as the earliest known guitar piece to feature twelve-tone compositional techniques. With one foot firmly planted in French impressionism and another in German expressionism Frank Martin offers us a wonderfully unique foray into post-tonal music!
I recorded these videos with the help of Julian Bertino at the University of Ottawa in June, 2017.
